Back into Infinity

I have finally started getting back into Infinity. Saturday the 19th I went to a friends house to play in what was supposed to be an ITS three game tournament. We ended up only being three guys, so we each played two games, one against each other.

As the new (really cool) Infinity & Beasts of War global online campaign Operation: Flamestrike have been online for about three weeks now, and is ITS compatible we decided to do both.

I have made my very own YouTube channel, like most people, but I can put up what I want there. And the battle reports for Operation: Flamestrike can have videos in them, so I needed somewhere to host those. My commander name is of course While, and I am playing Panoceania!

So I present to you: While Hobbying on YouTube! (I'll be doing the Hobbit/LOTR SBG stuff on Spillforeningen The Fellowship's YouTube channel).

The first game was played in Camp Antela, and the scenarion was Annihilation between Tohaa and Nomads. Gaspoud/Gaspard played Tohaa and Olivier/Bad Doc played Nomads. Watch the recap below:

I then played commander Gaspard and his Tohaa in Tianxian Astroport City, scenario Quadrant Control. The report on the warconsole is still a WIP. Watch the recap video below:

For the last game of the day I played commander Bad Doc and his Nomads in Sagres Orbital Tracking Station. As we intended to play an ITS tournament we could only have two offensive scenarios (Annihilation and Quadrant Control), we could not play Seize the Antennas, so we played a "custom" scenario in the form of the new ITS scenario Decapacitation. It was brutal. The write-up for the warconsole is still in the works. A video recap is below:

Hope you've enjoyed the read, I enjoyed myself at the "tournament". Thanks to Gaspoud for the game, and thanks to Olivier for the game, lunch and hosting the tournament!

I'm doing solid this ITS season, two losses, and two objective points. Wohoo! Guess that means I need to play more Infinity!

Enjoy your hobbying!

Relicblade - interesting Kickstarter

Not done this before, but there is a Kickstarter I'd really like to see get made. And get all the stretch goals!

It's Metal Kings Studio's Relicblade: Adventure Battle Game on Kickstarter!

It's a 2-player miniature game, where one side playes as the heroes and the other side is the bad guys. The basic setup is a 2'x2' board. In the middle there's a powerful relic for the players to capture, then the forces fight to the death.

All models have a character card with their lives and skills on, then there's equipment cars which can improve your model armour and weapons et cetera.

So far the heroes are a cool looking Questing Knight in plate armor. A druid with a human and bear form. The last hero so far is a half-dragon cleric with a spirit weapon, think a ghostly hammer, really cool!

The bad guys are the pig-men! Lots of pig-men with dangerous tusks and various weaponry.

Here's a video by the creator, Sean Sutter, about the basic gameplay:

It looks easy enough to learn, and complex enough with the equipment to play differently from game to game. And this is just the start of the game!

I enjoyed watching the battle-report at the great looking Lava Castle, before making up my mind about backing the project:

I've got quiet a few ideas on tables I want to make. Sean made a blogpost about how the Lava Castle table was built! I like the 3'x2' design, so you have half a feet on each side for the cards et cetera!

I have talked to a few friends about this already, so I'm sure I'll have some one to play the game with!

Hopefully you'll make a pledge for this, and help make the project happen and reach those stretch goals!

The two end stretch goals are a fourth "hero", a dynamic posed thief and what looks like a bad guy hero/leader, the Dark Wanderer.

The thief is already sculpted, Sean have put up videos of his process from sketch to finished product on his Youtube channel.

The Dark Wanderer concept is up on the Kickstarter, and is the $19 000 goal! As I'm writing this it's at the $9 950 mark, and 36 to go! I'm sure it'll get funded! Let's go!

I think we can expect a lot more for the game after the Kickstarter! Different bad guys and there's potential for different scenarios and campaigns!

What do you think, please comment your thoughts below!

Enjoy your hobbying!

Norwegian Masters 2016

This past weekend, 16th and 17th of January, the Norwegian Masters in 2016 was held. And for the first time in Norway The Hobbit SBG Master title was up for grabs.

The tournament consisted of five 600-point matches, three on Saturday and two on Sunday. Each match was limited to 2,5 hours. There was 10 participants.

I assembled my Christmas presents on the 25th of December, primed them on the 26th and 27th, started paiting on the 29th. Two weeks later I had it all finished. The list was as follows:

Warband 1.

Thorin Oakenshield, with the Oakenshield. Army leader.

9 Warriors of Erebor, spear and shield.

Warband 2.

Balin.

11 Grim Hammer.

1 Grim Hammer, banner.

Warband 3.

Grim Hammer Captain.

12 Grim Hammer.

This list was heavily influenced by Jeremy at the Green Dragon Podcast. I reccomend listening to their podcast, a lot of great content. I did not throw as many 4's as I should have though!

And as I was done with a couple of days to spare, I went over board on a display board. You can see the army and display board in the video below.

On Friday night before the tournament started I was picking up some terrain around town and the gaming table and bringing them to the venue, along with my own terrain. I hit a few snags along the way!

On Saturday I started with playing a game against Magnus. I've never met him, or played the Great Beast of Gorgoroth he brought with him. It was a great first game of the tournament! Hope to meet him again sometime. I won with a couple of points! The second game was against Sebastian and his Dwarf/Elf alliance. I deployed stupidly and Sebastian took the win pretty easy. The last game was against Lasse and his fighting Uruk-hai! Never met a troll, so that was interesting. Fortunatly his army was split from the start so I could concentrate on one part at a time. I won with a couple of points. Lasse came down from Trondheim and stayed at my place for the tournament. We finished the day with a 1200 point game Lasse and Andreas "The Norwegian Viking" against Mikkel, Joachim and myself! Great fun!

On Sunday I started the day by playing the other Andreas (how he refers to himself in the pre-game vid), with his Rohan/Saruman alliance. He slaughtered me, but I pulled the win by having more models closest to the objective. The last game was against "The Norwegian Viking". He had won all four previous games. He had a similar army to the one I won against at Mini-Arcon. You'll see how it went below!

I had a lot of fun at the Norwegian Masters! Although we were only 10 participants and an organizer for The Hobbit SBG there was about 200 participants there! The games where 40k, Age of Sigmar (which borrowed some of my terrain), Inifinity (also lent them terrain), X-Wing, WarMachine and Hordes, Kings of War, Flames of War. And there was a demo for Bolt Action and Frostgrave (which looked really cool)!

Thanks to my opponents and the rest of the players for great games, thanks to Joachim  the SBG TO, thanks to the Norwegian Masters organizers! And thanks to Sara, my significant other, for putting up with my mess, trying to do everything at once in time for the tournament. I still need to clean up stuff!

This is how Monday, post-tournament felt:

Happy new year!

It's a new year with new hobby posibilities and new tournaments to be played! The first ones are to paint an Erebor army for the Norwegian Masters tournament in two weeks time!

I hope you all had a great Christmas! I sure got quiet the haul:

image.jpg

Huge thanks to Sara and her parents for all of this! With some additions of my own, Thror's army is getting big!

I made a videolog of the start for Spillforeningen The Fellowships youtube channel. Check it out below!

I'll be doing these vlogs irregularly as I go along the year. I'll take still photos of the finished models and put them up here.

Andreas the Norwegian Viking and I are going to tackle quiet a large project this year! And beyond, most likley. I'll try to write another post about it soon!

I'm back home now, and I found my pot of Rhinox Hide and got to work:

Hope to finish the Grim Hammers by Tuesday, and hopefully I'll have some bases in the mail soon!

Christmas gaming, testing for Norwegian Masters

On Sunday we were five guys from Spillforeningen The Fellowship that met at Outland for some Christmas gaming. We coupled it with testing lists for the Norwegian Masters tournament in January! There will be five 600 point games. The scenarios wont be announced before the deadline to submit the lists have passed.

I really want to paint my Mumakil this Christmas break. So I made list with a mumak with rocks and sigil of defiance,  cheiftain and ten karna archers, and a second warband of ten serpent riders led by a cheiftain on horse with war spear. I wanted something that could keep up with the Mumak.

My wip Mumak

My wip Mumak

Serpent Riders

Serpent Riders

It proves to be a real glass cannon. I played two games, and I lost miserably both times. The first game was against Sebastian and his elves.

The elven dwarf alliance!

The elven dwarf alliance!

image.jpg

Close to the edge and stuff blocking the line of sight for my archers.

image.jpg

The Serpent Riders kill stuff quiet well on the charge, but if I lose the fight they usually dies as well..

image.jpg

Taking a wound, failing courage and standing next to the board edge is bad news for the Mumak! Very bad! It's really hard to manouvre..

image.jpg

Øysteins Uruk-hai led by Saruman versus Andreas "The Norwegian Viking". He used a similar army as the one he used at Mini-Arcon. Seemed even more solid this time around!

image.jpg

Marius' 49 model count army! Interesting one! Didn't get to play them, but would have been interesting. He had a lot of two handed axes, could have done some damage to the Mumak. Gandalf and Gwaihir could do some work as well!

image.jpg

Andreas' Angmar facing off against the Hobbits! They need to kill two more than their own numbers to break the enemy!

image.jpg

With piercing strikes and outnumbering the Hobbits might actually kill Orcs, but they need to win fights.. They didn't. Andreas won.

image.jpg

Sebastian and Øystein concentrating!

image.jpg
image.jpg

I played my second game against Andreas. We rolles Reconnoitre. I could probably have outmanouvered him and gotten alot of my army off the board. But I wanted to practice moving and using the Mumak and the Serpent Riders. He pretty much tabled me with zero losses.

image.jpg
image.jpg

I setup my riders outside of Andreas' charge range. But he compelled one of my riders, ganges up on him. Then he did a heroic combat and charged all of my right flank. And of course, had a taskmaster, so he didnt have to spend a might point. Very clever catapulting! I learned quiet a bit from that!

image.jpg

Dwarves and elves vs. Hobbits!

image.jpg

Marius' Paddington Hobbits!

It was a fun day of relaxed gaming! Thanks to the guys that showed up!

I'm still not sure wether or not to go with the Mumak and Serpent Riders.. I mostly want to because I want to paint it, and I dont have enough time to paint anything else. But Santa might bring me some goodies I rather want to paint!?

I'll try to make some posts during my Christmas hobbying, going away for a week with my girlfriend. And that means quiet a bit of hobbying time!

Mini-Arcon, summary and results

Mini-Arcon was a lot of fun! We were only six players, a lot of the players in the area are in their exam periods so they could not come, but that did not affect the atmosphere. I took pictures of each force, and put them up here.

image.jpg

Here's my army! Check my pre-Mini-Arcon (b)log for the complete list. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!

image.jpg

Mikkel's Minas Tirith army. This was the only opponent I didn't play in the tournament.  He had both brothers, Boromir and Faramir. Faramir, Damrod and a couple of other rangers had their heads/hoods resculpted. A very themey/fluffy looking army, but might not have been the most competitive and placed last.

image.jpg

Nils' Wood Elf and Ithilien alliance! 3 plus shoot, 6's to hit them with bow fire because of Galadriel and woodland creature on everyone! Fifth place for Nils.

image.jpg

Torgeirs Feifdom army. Prince Imrahil and his retinue. His knights hit hard! He placed third in the tournament. We had the same amount of tournament points, but he had 6 more tie-breaker points, so I placed fourth.

image.jpg

Sebastians great looking elves, his painting won best painted. The models had beatuifully painted faces, and the eyes looked great. The capes and other cloth was nicely blended as well. The whole force looked really good and unified! He also got second place in the tournament.

image.jpg

Andreas' Black Guard! His force was small, but it had a lot of tricks and can give as much damage as it could take. Andreas won the tournament and was one point away from the same score as Sebastian in the painting competition. The mouths of the Black Guard looked great. The black shading on all the capes and the black speech writing on the Shadow Lord was impressive. Andreas' is a great player and he's been playing the game for a long time. He also leads the Spillforeningen The Fellowship here in Oslo, and makes a lot of content on the YouTube channel of the club. And by the looks of it he painted up the army in a week. Check out his hobby vlog here!

image.jpg

Take a look at this! Their heads looks very similar! Looks like Andreas' Uruks killed of Cirion's twin, and put his head on a stick.  And Andreas thaught me how to paint the blond hair, so it looks quiet similar!

Now I just need to figure out what to play at the Norwegian Masters/NM in January next year. I'm thinking along the lines of what I played with a white robed old man added!

I hope you have enjoyed the posts, hope to see you next time!

Mini-Arcon, fifth game

This was a repeat match against Sebastians elves, and the last game of the tournament.

The scenario was Domination! One objective in the middle and four placed around the board.

image.jpg

We deployed close. As close as we could! The elves on the left was facing my Knights.

image.jpg

The view from my Knights.

image.jpg

A massive melee in the middel ensued. I had placed models on all the objectives, and I kinda hoped to lose models so the game would end.

image.jpg

Sebastian started to come after my guys on the objectives.

image.jpg

More melee. I threw Faramir and couple of Knights on Elrohir. But lower fight bites sometimes!

image.jpg

The end state. I was down to 25 %. A lot of my force had fled from failing courage tests. I lost one objective to it, but I won 9-6!

This was even more fun than the first game against Sebastian, and a nice end to the tournament!

Next (b)log I'll put up pictures of all the armies lined up and the end results!

-While

Mini-Arcon, fourth game

The fourth game of the tournament and first game on Sunday was against Andreas the Norwegian Vikings Angmar army. This was a very tricksy list. He had about 21 free heroic actions in previous games, the taskmasters whip was doing it's job! The force was led by the Shadow Lord, a taskmaster, a Black Guard captain, 8 Black Guard, two orcs with spears. To top it off there was a Shade followed closely by a Spectre.

The scenario was Hold Ground. When one force is broken (reduced to below 50 % of it's starting number) a roll of 1 or 2 before priority ends the game. The player with the most models within 6 inches of the objective in the middle of the board at the end of the game wins. Deployment is randomized by dice rolls. I had a slight advantage outnumbering Andreas about 2-to-1.

image.jpg

I forgot to take pictures early in the game. This is Andreas' main force almost at the middle of the board. These guys started pretty close to each other.

image.jpg

The Shade and Spectre came on to the board on the opposite corner of the rest of the force. With my force deployed on both sides of them. It took a while to get to them. The Spectre moving my knight away and my knights failing their courage tests when trying to charge the Shade.

image.jpg

The Black Guard getting into defensive position.

image.jpg

Different view. Andreas' banner reaches most of his models. The Shadow Lord's aura which makes me hit on only 6's with my bows reaches all the models. The side towards my main force have defended positions with the barrier in front.

image.jpg

I slew the Shade and tried to get into a good position to charge Andreas.

image.jpg

The point marking the objective is where the two grey tiles meet each other and the green tile. This was the right before the game ended. As soon as Andreas' force was broken he rolled a 2 ending the game.

It was very close, and after remeasuring I ended up with more models within the objective and beat Andreas 10-6. On the other hand I was luck he didn't kill Faramir, the taskmasters whip must have been worn out earlier. And the Shadow Lord tired countless time to kill Faramir with spells, but failed to wound ALL the time!

Again, a fun game, and a great way to start a Sunday!

-While

Mini-Arcon, third game

Third and last game on Saturday was against Torgeir and his fiefdoms army. One warband led by Prince Imrahil, two Dol Amroth Knights, 6 pikemen and 4 rangers. The second warband was led by a Dol Amroth Captain, two Knights, 6 pikemen and 4 rangers. A hard hitting force.

The scenario was Reconnoitre.

image.jpg

The forces eyeing each other.

image.jpg

Round three. I split up my force trying to get as much as possible off the board.

image.jpg

Priority!

image.jpg

It went to Torgeir, and my force was held back. I did get some of and the end result was a draw. It was a tense battle and I totally forgot to take more pictures. And write down the end result. I tried a hero march with Cirions last might point, but I didn't see Torgeirs pikeman standing in range. He had priority and charged Cirion cancelling my movement. It might have costed me the win, but we were short on time.

It was the last game of a long day and I was pretty tired.  But I had a lot fun, and I learnt more about the game and my force all the way!

-While

Mini-Arcon, second game

The second game of the tournament was agains Nils and his Wood Elf, Ithilien and White Council alliance. Legolas led a warband of Wood Elf warriors, Damrod led some Ithilien Rangers and Warriors. Lady Galadriel was watching over them all.

The scenario was Lords of Battle.

image.jpg

The field after a few rounds of movement. Some arrows was shot from both sides with little result.

image.jpg

A look down the battle lines. My force was split in two, with enemy in a long line.

image.jpg

The Ithilien force was hiding in the little area of woodland terrain on the board.

image.jpg

The cavalry had flanked the elven side of the line, but Faramirs mount was quickly killed. And Beregond tried to climb the wall, but fell on his back under the weight of his armor.

image.jpg

Galadriel, Legolas and three elves tried to kill my Knight. They did not! Legolas would have killed him with a 5, but he failed. All the other models just neede on 6 to do the deed, but no luck. MATHEMATICAL! Very fun moment!

image.jpg

Cirion and his warband had been kept busy and away from the elven force for long time, but slowly started to work their way towards the main melee.

image.jpg

The end result of the battle ended with me getting 20 victory points, and Nils got 16 victory points. My first win of the tournament!

- While

Mini-Arcon, first game

The first game was against Sebastians elves, lead by Eladan, Elrohir and Erestor. The scenario was To the Death!

image.jpg

I first deplyoed my Knights, and the elves deployed on the other half of the table. I depolyed 6 inches away from them and won priority. I didn't however think about the forest, giving me reduced movement so a lot of models did not make the charge.

image.jpg

My force was 31 models, Sebastian's was 25. The melee had almost equal numbers, so I was at a disadvantage because I had lower fight. And Sebastian rolled sixes upon sixes.

image.jpg

Sebastian tried to re-arrange his sheild-wall before my cavalry charge.

image.jpg

The cavalry has arrived.

image.jpg

The cavalry does not do much, fighting against models with spear support most of the time. And losing priority and getting charged hurts.

image.jpg

The Gondorian force gets heavy casualties, even Faramir goes down to the elven blades.

image.jpg

The end game, a lot of traps and dead men.

I managed to kill Eladan, which was the enemy leader, which gave me 3 victory points. Sebastian won with 10 victory points.

A hard start for me!

-While

Mini-Arcon

I'm way behind on (b)logging! It's pretty busy with work, some studies on the side, life and hobbying! I was, and still am, planning on writing up some kind of battle reports from the Outland Oslo Open tournament. I was nearly done with the first one, but now I cannot find the draft!

I might just put up the pictures I took, and just do some captions and summaries of each game, instead of writing a whole lot of text. I found it really hard to remeber to record what is happening in each game. Especially in a tournament game, where you have a limited amount of time each game. And there was quiet a few exciting games, and I was pulled into the action! I do however have some pictures and the results! Let's just say I averaged: two win, one draw and two losses!

On Saturday I'm going to Mini-Arcon. The gaming club I'm part of, Spillforeningen The Fellowship, are hosting a 500 points of Lord of the Rings/Hobbit Strategy Battle Game tournament. Three games on Saturday and two games on Sunday! I'm looking forward to playing LOTR/Hobbit SBG at a tournament again. My first and last time was at Arcon this summer, I borrowed Joakim's Uruk-hai (thanks). I have now painted up a host from the White City, Minas Tirith!

My list will be:

  • 7 might, 31 models, 500 points

Warband 1, 4/12

Faramir, Captain of Gondor with Horse; Heavy armour; Lance; Shield;
4 Knight of Minas Tirith with Shield;

Warband 2, 12/12

Cirion, Lieutenant of Amon Barad
1 Warrior of Minas Tirith with Shield; Spear; Banner;
4 Warrior of Minas Tirith with Shield; Spear;
5 Citadel Guard with Spear; Longbow;
2 Guard of the Fountain Court with Shield;

Warband 3, 12/12

Beregond
5 Warrior of Minas Tirith with Shield; Spear;
5 Citadel Guard with Spear; Longbow;
2 Guard of the Fountain Court with Shield;

I still have 4 spear tips and 6 bow tips to paint! I'll post some pictures when I'm done! And I'll take pictures from the tournament!

In the meanwhile, there has been a lot of exciting news from Games Workshop, with them starting up a new Specialist Games team! And looking for at least three new staff members: Middle Earth manager, writer and models designer!

Andreas can tell you all about it on the Spillforeningen The Fellowship YouTube channel!

If you play LOTR/Hobbit SBG, what do you think about my list? What do you think about the news about the Specialist Games team?

Making a list, and checking it twice...

Tomorrow I'll be headed down to the local comic-book/gaming/fantastic store Outland for the Outland Oslo Open (OOO)!

There will be a Warhammer 40k tournament. 1500 points, only allowed to use one Codex, maximum two detachements or formations. And we will be playing Maelstrom of War missions!

There is no painting rule, so I'll bring my almost complete Khorne Daemonkin for the first time!

The list is as follows:

  • Blood Host Detachment
    • Slaughtercult
      • Chaos Lord on Juggernaut of Khorne, bolt pistol, Sigil of Corruption, Axe of Khorne and Blood-forged Armour.
      • 8 Chaos Space Marines, one with plasma gun and a rhino
      • 8 Chaos Space Marines, one with plasma gun and a rhino
      • 5 Possessed, and a rhino
      • 8 Chaos Cultists
    • Gorepack
      • 5 Flesh Hounds
      • 5 Flesh Hounds
      • 3 Chaos Bikers, two with melta guns instead of bolt pistols
      • 3 Chaos Bikers, two with melta guns instead of bolt pistols
    • War Engine
      • Soul Grinder, Harvester Cannon, Iron Claw, Warpsword and Phlegm Bombardment
    • War Engine
      • Maulerfiend, two power fists and two magmacutters

1500 points exactly!

I tried a game with this army on Monday, and it worked okay. I had all of the Flesh Hounds in a unit of 10 instead of two units of five. Basically they just stood there.. And I fought an Imperial Knight, which is banned from the tournament. I'm looking forward to playing!

So far we're 15 players! We will be playing five games total, three tomorrow and two on Sunday.

I'll try to note down what happens in each game and either do battle reports or summaries of each game! I will try to take pictures as we go along as well!

My army is ready to go!

My army is ready to go!

I have packed my KR Multicase backpack, with four of their cardboard-boxes. I can fit a lot in there! I'm bringing one Bloodthirster (which may be one or two short), five extra Flesh Hounds, a Skull Cannon and 20 Bloodletters. In case I need to summon something!

And all my dice, tape measurer, printed army list, codex, rulebook, templates, tray and notepad is packed! I hope that's all!

First post, quick view of my hobby year so far.

Dreaded first post! What to post here?! First off, I need to get on my own computer and sort out my pictures! Then I can actually start posting some more interesting stuff. I have an instagram account: www.instagram.com/while88 where I have put up quiet a lot of pictures. I will use pictures from there, but I will do some more writing here. And I will go back and take some new pictures of my models. I've been eyeing a lightbox kit on Amazon!

As I've written in the ABOUT section, this site is more of a log for myself then an interesting read for you, I expect! If you find it even remotely interesting or inspiring, please let me know!

This year started with a monthly challenge with Facing the Grey Tide: http://ftgtgaming.blogspot.no/. The idea was to have a budget of 500 NOK each month and after 6 months have a completed army. One month was allowed a double up month, to allow for more expensive models. I will go more in detail with pictures on what I did, but I painted up a Tempestus Scion Ground Assault Formation, an Imperial Knight and a Chaos Maulerfiend for flavor.

I joined in on an 40k Escalation League, starting with 250 points and increasing that amount every month. I used my Chaos Space Marines, it didn't go so well..and still not finished! Oh, and Khorne Daemonkin came out.. I got some of those of course!

I started a new system: Infinity! I got a whole bunch of PanOceania models. They are really nice, and it is a fun game, but complicated game!

I got back into Lord of the Rings, or well: The Hobbit Strategy Battle Game as it is now called. Early summer I borrowed a 600 points Uruk-hai army and joined in on a tournament at Arcon. I later stripped all my figures and started painting them again. More on that later!

Then Age of Sigmar was release, and I was determined not to get into that. Then the local Games Workshop started a monthly challenge. I have now quite a large dwarf force!

The LOTR/Hobbit/SBG club I'm part of: https://spillforeningenthefellowship.wordpress.com/ have a Battle Companies campaign going. We've played for eight weeks now, only seven more to go! For this season!

And this weekend there is the Outland Oslo Open 40k tournament! 1500 point of Khorne Daemonkin! I think that will be my next post!

The hobby year of 2015 has been a busy one for sure!
